תרגום לעברית למטה Despite being a scientist, I was always drawn to other forms of knowledge and was never able to treat it as the only source of authority. I wanted to study earth science in order to understand and explore the planet we share. But now, after more than ten years in this field and having a PhD, I can say that science is missing something very important. The woman in this video, Robin Wall Kimmerer, said it so accurately, so I am just going to quote part of the things she said at the beginning of her talk and hope you will watch further: ----------------------------- "Despite the tremendous progress that we know that we have made collectively, it pains me to recognize that we are still facing some of the same challenges that propelled our work nearly 50 years ago. There has not been sufficient CULTURAL EVOLUTION, to align our social values with ecological law, and that really brings us to the question of HOW MIGHT WE AS SCIENTISTS, CAN ACCELERATE THAT EVOLUTION? ......."I used to be one of those who said, well, if people only knew, they would change their ways, if they had more information, more facts, we would be propelled into that cultural evolution much faster.... "but many studies show that that is not the case! More information does not lead to the cultural evolution that we need. I have become convinced as a teacher,as a writer, as a scientist, that it is not more data or money that we need; what we lack is a CHANGE OF HEART. WE ARE IN A MIDST OF A CRISIS OF VALUES. WHAT WE REALLY NEED IS WISDOM. So I ask, from our privileged position as people with the capacity to be CHANGE MAKERS, how can we do science, in a way that propels this evolution?"
